After her husband, who has Parkinson's disease, found it difficult to do up the buttons on his shirts, Maura Horton came up with magnetic buttons.
She found that most types of adaptive clothing were for either the elderly or people with disabilities. There was nothing for people who were still independent but needed ways to make their tasks simpler.
She decided to change her husband’s shirts by replacing the buttons with machine washable magnets. She now has a business making them for other people.
She launched her MagnaReady buttons online and soon brands like Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, will be selling MagnaReady shirts in stores in the United States and Canada later this year.
