A new study says that fecal or stool transplants offer the potential to help and fight a number of conditions like obesity and autism in children.

It says that kids with autism may benefit from fecal transplants, which is a way of introducing donated healthy microbes into people to re-balance the gut.

The signs of autism and gastrointestinal problems often go together and both showed signs of improvement when a small group of children with the disorder underwent fecal transplant.

There is growing research that is showing links between viruses in the gut and problems in the brain. It is possible that the two are tied together in an important way in autism.

Scientists have found a vitamin that may help in developing a medicine that can reverse ageing, fight cancer as well as help in space travel.

The vitamin is called NAD+ and is naturally present in every cell of our body.

By treating mice with a booster dose of this vitamin, scientists found that it helped repair the damage caused to cells due to radiation exposure or old age.

The findings may lead to medicines that could treat cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and protect astronauts from radiation during their space missions.

NAD+ could be also useful for treating various diseases of ageing, female infertility and side effects of chemotherapy.

Scientists in the United States have developed a new genetic test that can be used to predict the age at which a person will develop Alzheimer's disease.

The test is based on 31 genetic markers, and a high score can translate to being diagnosed many years earlier than those with a low-risk genetic profile.

Those ranked in the top 10% in terms of risk were more than three times as likely to develop Alzheimer’s. The score test was developed using genetic data from more than 70,000 individuals, including patients with Alzheimer’s disease and healthy elderly people.

Around a quarter of patients have a strong family history of the disease, and this is partly due to a gene called ApoE, which has a powerful influence on the risk of getting Alzheimer’s.
