The first ‘Kindle for the blind’ will be on sale by the end of 2017. It's called the Canute and it will turn the text downloaded from a memory stick into Braille. This will give blind readers access to a range of books.

Developers say it is the world’s first multi-line digital Braille e-reader that will allow people to read nine lines of Braille with 40 characters on each line.

The price won't be cheap and it will work in much the same way as a regular e-reader. Engineers have been working on the Canute since 2012.

Deactivate the option of vibration while typing on the smartphone keyboard as that consumes battery throughout the day.

Mobile phone company Samsung is working on a new app called ‘In-Traffic Reply’ that will reply to text messages for users while they are driving a car or bike.

The app is currently being tested in Netherlands in Europe.

The app depends on phone sensors and GPS to find if the user is in a moving car or bike.

The automatic replies in the app are stored replies to incoming texts. For example, one reply is ‘I’m driving, so I cannot answer at the moment’ and the second one can be a funny reply with some type of animation.

The app may be launched by May and will be available in the Google Play Store.

Technology company Google India, has introduced Indian language support across its products.

The idea is to break the language barriers among its different customers of India and help them use technology better.

From now on, the Google translator will translate English with nine Indian languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Malayalam, Gujarati, Marathi and Kannada.

The new update will be available in the company’s products such as Google Chrome, Google Search, G-board app and Google Dictionary.

For example, Google searches will also give Hindi dictionary results. It means, one can type the Hindi word on the search bar and get the meaning of the word and also the English translation of the word.

Social network Facebook’s app Facebook Lite has got new features.

The app has been updated with Facebook reactions and better camera effects.

Earlier, these features were only available on the web and on Facebook’s iOS and Android apps.

The ‘Reactions’ feature will include options such as Love, Haha, Wow, Sad and Angry, alongwith ‘Like’.

The camera effects have been designed for local users of India. It will include special greetings like ‘Namaste’ and place-specific experiences in cities of New Delhi, Mumbai, Goa and other famous locations in the country.

Facebook Lite app is smaller, quick to download and uses less data and storage space.

Technology company Google’s travel app Google Trips has got a new update.

The new update now allows users to make bus and train bookings.

Earlier, the app allowed only flight, hotel, car and restaurant bookings.

The app will also let users add details like airline and flight number or the hotel, even if they don’t get an email confirmation.

Google Trips makes it easier for users to plan and organize trips. It also helps to get information on the nearby famous tourist places, things to do on a trip and is also available offline to access the information of the app. The app can be downloaded from Android and iOS.

Johan Baggerman is the first person in the Netherlands who has received a prosthetic arm that can be controlled with his mind.

The special arm is directly attached to the bone and can be controlled using a Bluetooth bracelet that receives signals.

Three surgeries were performed to fix the artificial arm to Baggerman’s body. The surgeries connected his nerves to the artificial arm and still allows for the arm to be removed easily.

The process takes time and the three surgeries were done between 2013 and 2016, while the final stages were reached recently.

Google’s web mapping service ‘Google Maps’, has launched a new feature that will allow users to find their parked cars.

Android users can tap the blue dot and then tap ‘save your parking’ to add their parking location to the map.

This will show a label on the map and help users find where they parked their cars in case they forgot.

Users can also add extra details about their parking place in the label. They can save an image of their parking place and send parking location to friends.

The steps are same for iOS users as well, except that after the tap on blue dot, the label will read, ‘Set as parking location’ to the map itself.

People on the autism spectrum often find it hard to get the support and skills needed to find jobs in the tech industry. Now they will thanks to a new program for autistic people, by autistic people.

A new startup called Coding Autism, launched in April, is developing a school in Los Angeles, US, to teach autistic people coding, web development, and software engineering skills.

Participants will attend a 15-week, full-time program that includes resume workshops, career counseling, interview preparation, and access to professional mentors.

Coding Autism will also help participants find jobs in the tech industry. Students will also get to present their portfolios on Coding Autism's website, so potential employers can find them.

The startup founder says that the stigma and misconceptions around autism spectrum disorders still affects the community when it comes to finding jobs.

Messaging app WhatsApp has introduced a new update on iOS.

The update now allows Apple users to ask ‘Siri’ to read out their latest WhatsApp messages.

Siri is a computer program which works as an intelligent personal assistant and provides knowledge in Apple’s devices.

The new feature of ‘Siri’ can be seen on WhatApp update (v 2.17.20). The new update is 88.8MB in size and is available on the App store.

To start ‘Siri’ for WhatsApp, go to Settings > Siri > App Support and toggle on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp has also plans to make visual changes to the Call tabs, Contact info and Group info screens.
