Over 43 people were killed in the worst fire accident in Delhi. The incident happened at Anaj Mandi area of South Delhi. The exact reason of the fire to break out has not been confirmed. But it has been reported that the fire broke out at around 5.22 am on Sunday morning. Over 50 people were injured. All of them have been admitted to hospitals across Delhi. Many are in critical conditions. Hence, the death toll may rise.

The fire in Delhi’s Anaj Mandi on Rani Jhansi Road is extremely horrific. My thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones. Wishing the injured a quick recovery. Authorities are providing all possible assistance at the site of the tragedy- Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India.

Over 150 fire personals were deployed to bring down the fire. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) also helped in rescue operations. According to reports, most of the victims died of asphyxiation. Experts found out dangerous levels of carbon monoxide at the accident site.

Most of the victims were labourers and their families who were living in the cramped four storey building. Officials confirmed that the building did not have any safety measures.

“We have lost more than 40 innocent lives to the tragic fire. I’ve ordered a magisterial inquiry into its cause, no culprit will be spared We can’t bring back lost lives, but Delhi govt will provide ₹10 L assistance to families that lost their loved ones & ₹1 L for the injured”, tweeted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
