Amit Pallath Javed Abidi Foundation Meera Natarajan MIND TRUST (Mobility in Dystrophy Trust) Mobility in Dystrophy (MinD) is a nascent fellowship of the patients of muscular dystrophy in Kerala since 2017 May 1. Muscular Dystrophy is a progressive genetic disorder ie., though the disease may be localized to one part of the body in the beginning, it gradually spreads to other parts, leading finally to a complete cessation of physical movement. The mutation in the normal DNA prevents the production of a protein that is necessary for muscle development leading to gradual degradation of the muscle and restricting the mobility of the person affected. The MinD has been established with the lofty aim of sustaining among its sufferers some sense of dynamism at the psychological level even as the body surrenders to restrictions on movement imposed by the disease. It requires a myriad of courage and self-confidence to face the many “Nos” the disease lead you into. MinD being an organisation led by a group of MD patients can be seen more like a family standing together fighting and setting a model for everyone in the society, clearly saying, Impossible is I’m possible. MinD aims to make an inclusive society where a person with a disability can lead a normal life without being seen as an alien. It is the main objective of MinD to make society be aware of the diseases like MD, SMA etc. Many awareness campaigns have fruitfully made MinD succeed in the same objective. The other vision is to increase the gap of education among people suffering from Muscular Dystrophy and increasing career opportunities. Last but not least, the main goal is to have a rehabilitation centre for patients of MD; to which every action and step merge.
