Too much smartphone use affects mental health
Excess use of smartphone and other devices can cause attention, behaviour and self-control problems for adolescents, says new research. Teenagers who use technology more show more behaviour-related problems and higher signs of ADHD-attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The youth participating in the study were between 11 and 15 years old. They spent an average of 2.3 hours a day using digital technologies.
On days that they used their devices more they were more likely to lie, fight and show other behavioural problems. They also had difficulty paying attention.
The study also says that using technology has some positive outcomes, like less depression and anxiety.
