Sensex closes 314 points up, Nifty settles above 9,400

The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty were trading up on Wednesday. This was because shares of consumer goods and agriculture companies increased after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast a higher monsoon rainfall than expected.

The BSE Sensex closed 314.92 points up at 30,248.17 while the NSE Nifty closed 90.45 points up at 9,407.30. The top three Sensex gainers were Bharti Airtel (+7.87%), Hindustan Unilever (+4.60%) and HDFC (+3.25%). The top three Sensex losers were Wipro (-1.64%), Asian Paint (-1.14%) and ICICI Bank (-0.91%). The top three Nifty gainers were Bharti Airtel (+7.98%), Zeel (+4.93%) and Hindustan Unilever (+4.51%). The top three Nifty losers were Wipro (-1.79%), Tata Power (-1.68%) and Ultracemco (-1.52%).
