How to stay physically active at the workplace

Sitting for long hours behind a computer, or just sitting at one place and working for a long time can create serious health problems. People with a desk job are at higher risk of health issues like obesity, heart related disease and diabetes. So, it is important to work towards an active lifestyle.

Here are simple and small steps you can take each day to help change your sedentary lifestyle:

At home:

Walk or exercise for atleast 30 minutes a day as it has many health benefits.

Avoid watching too much TV or playing video games.

Increase your physical activity by doing some stretching exercises or walking around the house.

Washing dishes, cleaning the dining table, sweeping the floor, planting small trees for the garden are some moderate-level physical activities, which are good for health.

At work:

Take short walk-breaks for atleast 15 to 20 minutes from your work. It will help you to improve your memory and increase creativity.

Climb stairs instead of using elevators as it will help you lose weight and improve your heart health.

Stand while making or taking phone calls as it increases energy, burns extra calories and improves posture.

Carry some healthy snacks from home and avoid eating junk foods, sweet treats, soda and other energy drinks at work. For example, a bowl of fruits such as apples, bananas, small packs of nuts are some good options.

Developing the above habits in your daily life can help you to stay healthy, overcome sedentary lifestyle and get moving.
