Robotic device helps prevent falls among the elderly
Accidental falls and injuries are the major cause of death among the elderly, says a report.
Scientists have introduced a wearable device that is lightweight and robotic. The idea is to identify when elderly lose their balance, improve their way of walking and prevent their fall.
The new device can also help people with disabilities and amputees in their daily activities.
The device weighs about five kilogrammes and can be easily adjusted to an individual’s height and belt. It doesn’t affect the individual’s normal walking.
The assistive mode gets activated only when balance loss is identified.
