State Bank of India gifts siblings wheelchairs

The State Bank of India gifted cheques of Rs 1.85 lakh each to a brother and sister for buying customized, motorized wheelchairs.

This was after the Bangalore Mirror did a story on the siblings, Rekha and Jayanth, who suffer from a rare medical condition, and were forced to share a badly maintained wheelchair to go for their software jobs due to lack of funds.

Along with the SBI, newspaper readers also donated nearly Rs 1.75 lakh into the siblings’ account which will be used for their treatment. Jayanth and Rekha are affected by a rare genetic disorder called Type 4 MPS (Mucopolysaccharidosis), which has affected their bones and spine and has stunted their overall growth. The siblings are engineers and work for a technology company.
