Assam youth use social media to stop 250 child marriages
Social media is not just for forwarding jokes and funny videos with friends. The youth of remote areas in Assam are using the power of social media to improve lives. The youth have managed to stop 250 child marriages in their areas in the past four months.
Many young lives have been saved due to a campaign through Facebook and WhatsApp group.
A WhatsApp group called Balya Bibah Birodhi Mancha (Forum Against Child Marriage), passes out the information about child marriage and the local leaders and activists of All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) take action.
Most of these youth had to face violence by local goons who promote child marriages. They want government to come forward and help them in the drive.
