Bengaluru event helps people understand the lives of the disabled

Many people participated and learned sign language from the hearing impaired people in an event called 'siGnAthon – The Silent Human Chain' in Bengaluru.

Around 300 people who had come to the event also learned about the life of the people who cannot hear or see.

The event was organised by NGO Giftabled to celebrate Helen Keller's birthday. Helen Keller was a famous deaf-blind American author, political activist and a lecturer.

The event included an introduction to Braille and Sign Language, which covered the alphabets in basic Braille and sign language and also gave information about the strengths, problems and discrimination faced by people with disabilities.

The idea of the event is to change the views of the society towards people with disabilities and help people focus on what disabled people can do, instead of what they cannot.
