Mumbai housing society saves Rs 2 lakh on electricity bills by using solar power
Residents of a housing complex in Kandivli in Mumbai came up with interesting ideas to reduce their dependence on electricity and develop an environment-friendly place to live in.
The 230 families living in the housing society collected Rs 35 lakh to install a 65kW rooftop solar system in the building. This has helped them to reduce the use of electricity by 60% and save around Rs 2.2 lakh per month on electricity bills.
The building also has a wastewater treatment plant which means the treated water is used in washrooms and helps them save more amount of clean water.
They have also installed water saving taps which reduces the flow of water from 8 litres to 3 litres a minute.
