Drugs for chronic diseases to get cheaper after GST roll-out
The officials of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has informed that the new prices of 761 medicinal drugs will be cheaper after the goods and services tax (GST) roll-out on 1 July.
The prices of medicinal drugs used to treat serious diseases such as HIV, cancer, Crohn’s disease, pneumonia and skin-related diseases have also come down by a few hundred rupees.
Apart from these, regular medicines like paracetamol has also seen price cuts.
As most of the medicinal drugs will come under the 12% GST category, certain life-saving drugs are still in the 5% tax slab under the new system. Experts have said that the effect of GST will not be extreme on such drugs.
