Majority of the elderly people are lonely in India, says study
Around one in two elderly people suffer from loneliness, says a new study titled Changing Needs & Rights of Older People in India.
The study showed that 64.1% elderly people living in city areas and 39.19% elderly people from village areas were suffering from loneliness.
For majority of the elderly participants of the research, living alone or with their spouses, less interaction with family members and poor health were the main reasons for their loneliness condition.
The research by Agewell foundation was done during April to June 2017 on 15,000 elderly people from 300 districts of 25 states.
