Sensex closes 232 points up, Nifty settles above 9800

The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty were trading up on Thursday. The BSE Sensex crossed 32,000 mark for the first time and the NSE Nifty hit a new high of 9,891. The inflation data is increasing hopes among the investors that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may cut interest rates by 25 basis points (BPS) at its next policy review on 1-2 August.

The BSE Sensex closed 232.56 points up at 32,037.38 while the NSE Nifty closed 75.60 points up at 9,891.70. The top three Sensex gainers were ITC (+3.03%), Bharti Airtel (+1.84%) and ICICI Bank (+1.71%). The top three Sensex losers were ONGC (-2.30%), Asian Paint (-0.75%) and Tata Motors (-0.55%). The top three Nifty gainers were Yes Bank (+4.33%), ITC (+3.16%) and Hindalco (+2.39%). The top three Nifty losers were IOC (-2.69%), ONGC (-2.36%) and Infratel (-2.09%).
