50 monuments in Gujarat to have Braille signboards
Some of Gujarat's most popular monuments will soon be accessible to the blind. These include popular tourist spots like the Sun Temple of Modhera, Rani ki Vav in Patan, Diu fort, Dwarka temple and Jama Masjid in Champaner.
The Archaeological Survey of India office in Gujarat will set up braille signboards at around 50 monuments so that their historical and cultural significance can be understood by blind visitors.
The sites have been selected based on their popularity with tourists. The installation of signboards will start within a month. This step comes after UNESCO declared Ahmedabad a World Heritage City over a week ago.
Travel experts say that this will attract more foreign tourists, and that more steps must be taken to make tourist places disabled-friendly.
