These stairs make it easy for elderly to climb stairs
Researchers in the United States have developed a device that they believe can help the old and unwell climb up and down staircases.
The device is called ‘Assistive Staircase’ and its aim is to use the energy that is wasted while going downstairs to help people climb up.
They say that the legs use a lot of energy preparing for each step to avoid falling too fast. The device stores that energy rather than waste it. The system can be laid over existing staircases in the home.
When a person walks down the stairs, the springs compress, and this reduces the strain on the ankle joints by 26%. While going up the stairs, the springs give you a boost by releasing the stored energy, making the climb easier.
