Indian Independence Day is celebrated today
Independence Day is celebrated every year on 15 August in India to remember the nation’s independence from the United Kingdom on 15 August 1947. This year, India is celebrating its 70th year of independence from British rule. The day is celebrated all over India with flag-hoisting functions, parades and cultural events.
The government has decided to celebrate the day by requesting people to give their time towards social causes and share their ideas towards a new India.
On this day, people in the country pay respect to their leaders and those who fought for the freedom of India in the past. Many people spend the day by participating in special contests and programs to support the day. People also spend the day with family members or close friends and watch movies about India’s freedom fighters on television or go out for picnic.
