Google Glass are of help to the blind

The Google Glass was a flop when it was launched commercially in 2014, but Google's invention is now being used to help the blind manage their lives better.

The glasses do not restore or improve sight. But blind or low vision users who are wearing the glasses use a phone app to connect to a live person, called agent, located somewhere in the United States.

Through the camera in the glasses, the agent can see what the blind user cannot. The agent and user communicate through the phone and an earbud.

There are some limits, like the agents cannot go into a washroom or any place where something private is happening.

Using the glasses with a remote agent peering through the lenses does not mean the blind can do without a cane or a guide dog.
