Aadhaar enrollment process is not disabled-friendly

The government is making Aadhaar number mandatory for various activities, and this has become an issue for the disabled people in India.

Several people with disabilities have complained that the Aadhaar enrollment process has caused them mental and physical trauma.

In Chennai, a complaint was lodged with the State Commissioner for Persons with Disability.

The process of enrollment for Aadhaar is not disabled friendly despite one biometric exemption.

Some people cannot sit still for the pictures to be taken due to neurological disabilities. People with spastic cerebral palsy and many other conditions are unable to stretch their fingers or toes against the machine.

Smart cameras can be used for inclusive and safe Aadhaar enrollment process for PwD.
