Why delay Rights of Transgender bill? High Court asks government

The High Court of Madras has asked the government about the reason for the delay in the passing of Rights of Transgender Persons Bill.

The Rights of Transgender Persons Bill, 2014 was passed by the Rajya Sabha in 2015. However, the bill has been pending in the Lok Sabha since February 2016.

The bill will make the lives of transgender people better in the country. It has provision to ensure that people of the transgender community can live without discrimination.

The High Court has also asked the government if the transgenders can be considered a separate group in the field of education, employment and other social benefits.
