Railways starts shaming people caught in coaches reserved for disabled

Railway authorities in Mumbai have begun to embarrass people who do not have a disability by photographing them with crutches in hand if they are caught travelling in compartments reserved for the disabled.

It had earlier started special drives and prosecuted such people under Section 154 of the Railway Act for travelling in the coach meant for the disabled. As this was not enough, the Kurla Government Railway Police came up with this unusual idea.

The police said that no amount of pleading and counseling had any effect and regular action too failed to stop them.

Some people are also made to sit on a wheelchair kept with the stationmaster to make them sensitive towards the needs of the disabled.
