Today is the festival of Dussehra
Dussehra, also known as Vijayadasami or Dasara, is a main Hindu festival observed at the end of Navratri every year to celebrate the win of good over evil.
In the eastern and north-eastern states of India, Dussehra marks the end of Durga Puja, which remembers goddess Durga’s victory over the buffalo demon.
In the northern, southern and western states of the country, the festival marks the end of ‘Ramleela’ and remembers god Rama's victory over the demon Ravana.
The festival is observed by immersion of Durga images or statues into the river and burning the images or statues of Ravana.
Dussehra festival also starts the preparation for the festival of lights, Diwali, which is celebrated after some days.
