Sensex closes 161 points up, Nifty settles above 9,900
The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty were trading up on Friday after much weaker-than-expected economic growth data increased hopes that the Reserve Bank of India would cut interest rates at its next policy meeting in October.
The BSE Sensex closed 161.74 points up at 31,892.23 while the NSE Nifty closed 56.50 points up at 9,974.40.
The top three Sensex gainers were Dr Reddy (+9.75%), Asian Paint (+3.97%) and Bajaj-Auto (+3.92%).
The top three Sensex losers were Bharti Airtel (-1.37%), Power Grid (-1.17%) and TCS (-1.10%).
The top three Nifty gainers were Dr Reddy (+9.46%), Auro Pharma (+4.42%) and Asian Paint (+3.98%).
The top three Nifty losers were IOC (-1.47%), TCS (-1.43%) and Power Grid (-1.37%).
