There are few jobs today that do not require you to use a computer screen for long hours. Then there are many transactions we do online on laptops or mobile devices.
All this affects the health of our eyes. Our bodies try to warn us of eye troubles in the form of headaches, dry eyes or watery eyes, but we tend to ignore these signs.
Ignoring them can lead to problems like presbyopia, which is difficulty to focus on close-up objects, cataract - clouding of the eye`s lens, floaters, flashes and age-related macular degeneration.
These can be avoided to a large extent if we take care of our eyes. Some simple steps that we can follow are :
*Drink 6-8 glasses of water every day to keep your eyes moist, healthy and clean.
*Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. This will help protect the eyes against nutritional deficiencies.
*Regular use of mobile phones, television, and computers can tire the eyes. Every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away from your screen for 20 seconds.
*Stop smoking as it increases the risk of eye diseases, especially cataract.
*Use sunglasses with UV protection to protect your eyes from harmful rays of the sun.
