No justice to disabled rape victim in Odisha, government given notice

The National Human Rights Commission has served a notice to the Odisha government for failing to provide justice to a disabled child who was raped inside the Jagannath temple at Baripada five months back.

On 31 March, the disabled girl was allegedly raped inside the temple when she went inside for darshan. No counselling or compensation has been given to her so far.

The police and state government officials have been accused of negligence and of violating human rights.

The rape survivor's lawyer has said that the state must pay Rs 10 lakh to her and investigate the case.
