Genes that cause intellectual disabilities identified, holds possibility of finding cure
Researchers have discovered 15 genes that play a role in the development of intellectual disabilities.
Intellectual disabilities are often caused due to a change that damages a gene that is responsible for protein production in cells. This prevents the protein from working properly.
The results of the study shows 15 genes in which mutations are gathered closely together. Of these, 12 were associated with developmental disorders.
The research holds out the possibility of developing new diagnostic possibilities for patients.
