Delhi High Court orders report on abuse of children at home for the blind
The Delhi High Court has directed the state government and the police to file status reports on the sexual abuse of blind children at an NGO by a British national, Murray Dennis Ward.
The court has directed Delhi authorities to take adequate measures to ensure safety and security of the children at the home run by the National Association for the Blind.
The court also directed the Delhi State Legal Services Authority to look into the matter and submit a report in the court on the distribution of compensation to victims.
The court said that since the disabled are more vulnerable to sexual and physical assault, greater care must be taken to make sure that they are secure.
On 2 September, a staff member at the National Association for the Blind had caught accused Murray Dennis Ward in an objectionable situation with three minor boys. He was arrested after the NGO filed a police complaint.
The 54-year-old British national was working as a volunteer with the NGO for blind kids. He was a frequent visitor to the NGO premises for many years, and donated lavishly for the children’s education and hostel.
