Kerala Police to file a case for showing disabled man as drunk
The police in the city of Kochi in Kerala have registered a case in the incident where a disabled man traveling on the Kochi Metro was ridiculed on social media as a drunkard for taking a nap inside the coach.
The case was filed by the Ernakulam Central Police based on an order from the State Commissionerate for Persons with Disabilities.
Eldho, who is deaf and speech impaired, was the target of a vicious campaign after he dozed off on his first metro ride on 22 June. Various reports on social media tried to portray him as a drunkard.
His son and mother later said that this was not true and that he was heartbroken after visiting his brother who was seriously ill at the General Hospital in Kochi.
Eldho, however, found it difficult to leave his house even for work.
The Kochi Metro Rail Limited had also apologized to Eldho by offering him a free travel card worth Rs 2,000.
