A new study says that keeping a active lifestyle may help to prevent cognitive decline, which is the loss of ability to think as one grows old.

Both the heart and brain need blood flow, but blood vessels slowly become narrowed or blocked as people grow old. This condition is known as atherosclerosis and is the cause of many heart attacks and strokes.

The study suggests that many symptoms of atherosclerosis and risk factors to late-life cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease can be prevented by following a healthy diet, getting enough physical exercise, avoiding tobacco products and other ways.

Some simple steps to follow in life is to manage blood pressure, control cholesterol, keep blood sugar normal, get physically active, eat a healthy diet, lose extra weight and not smoke.
