Mumbai school collects 20 lakh for drought-affected Marathwada
Students of Mumbai’s The Cathedral and John Connon School have collected Rs 20 lakhs for the drought-affected Marathwada region of Maharashtra.
Rs 15 lakhs has been handed to the NGO Naam Foundation that was founded by actor Nana Patekar to help farmers, while Rs 5 lakh has been given to the school board for the education of children in the affected areas.
The students were moved into action by a presentation on the scale of the crisis. They sold T-shirts and pooled money set aside for sports and social events.
Thousands of people have been affected by the severe shortage of water in Marathwada with most of the wells running dry.
