Maharashtra government to ban plastic bags next year
The government of Maharashtra is planning to put a ban on the use of plastic bags from Gudi Padwa festival next year.
This was announced by the state environment minister Ramdas Kadam. He also said that the government has invited proposals from various organisations to suggest alternatives to plastic bags that are below 50 microns.
The government had put this ban earlier also, but it was not a success and the use of plastic bags continues in Maharashtra.
The plastic bags are harmful for the environment as they are not bio-degradable.
They also block drains and cause issues like water clogging during heavy rains.
