Most of us like eating papayas in raw form and also as a ripe fruit. Raw papaya is used as a vegetable while ripe one is used in fruit salads.

Pregnant women should not eat excess papaya, as it is feared to increase the risk of abortion.
Overeating papaya can hurt your esophagus, the food pipe. It is recommended to eat only a cup of papaya in a day.
Papain present in papaya leaves can be toxic for the baby and even lead to birth defects. It is best to avoid eating this fruit before and sometime after birth till the mother is breast feeding.
Some people can also get an allergic reaction due to the presence of latex in papaya.
