Bengaluru police urges schools to introduce SMS system for children safety
A circular has been released by some of the police stations in Bengaluru city asking schools and colleges to launch an SMS system and get daily updates from parents to know if the schoolchildren have reached their homes safely or not.
Parents have to send an SMS in the morning after the child leaves home for school. Once the child leaves the school in the evening, the school management has to SMS the parents. When the child returns home, the parents have to SMS and inform the school.
The move comes after there is an increase in the number of incidents of kidnapping of schoolchildren, sexual assault and other crimes recently.
However, the school managements say that it is not possible to keep a check on children once they leave the schools while parents also say that it is not practical to send SMSes on daily basis to the schools as many of them are working parents.
