Sikh community demands ban on TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah

The Sikh community in India has asked for a ban on long-running Indian TV show, ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ as it has hurt their sentiments.

The community has alleged that the show featured a living character of 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh, which is against the Sikh principles.

The producer and creator of the show Asit Kumarr Modi has said that the character was that of Guru Gobind Singh Ji Ka Khalsa, played by actor Roshan Singh Sodhi. And that the character has been explained through the dialogues and performance.

He also said that he believed that all religions are equal and never meant to hurt anyone's feeling. He has asked viewers not to misinterpret it.

The show has been on air since 2008 and is based on the column Duniya Ne Oondha Chashma, written by late columnist and journalist Taarak Mehta for a Gujarati weekly magazine.
