Bihar government to provide Rs 15,000 for girl child born to families below poverty line

The government of Bihar will provide Rs 15,000 as financial help in three installments for every girl born in a family of the below poverty line - BPL category or families having a yearly income up to Rs 60,000 to protect and support her future.

The first installment will be paid on the birth of the girl child, the second will be paid when she becomes 14 years old and the final installment will be paid when she reaches the age of 19 years.

The idea is to discourage child marriage and motivate the girl children to opt for further studies and make a career.

The state government also plans to formally announce the anti-dowry and anti-child marriage campaign in Bihar from 2 October, which will mark the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti.
