Sensex closes 439 points down, Nifty settles below 9,800

The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty were trading low due to across the board selling by investors before the expiry of September derivatives, weakness in the rupee and mixed global cues.

The BSE Sensex closed 439.95 points down at 31,159.81 while the NSE Nifty closed 135.75 points down at 9,735.75.

The top three Sensex gainers were TCS (+0.62%), Coal India (+0.25%) and Bajaj-Auto (+0.09%).

The top three Sensex losers were Adani Ports (-4.85%), SBI India (-2.89%) and Reliance (-2.51%).

The top three Nifty gainers were Infratel (+1.90%), TCS (+0.83%) and Tech Mahindra (+0.59%).

The top three Nifty losers were Adani Ports (-4.75%), SBI India (-3.10%) and Bank of Baroda (-3.05%).
