Former cricketer Brett Lee to attend family meeting of deaf kids in Kerala
Former Australian cricketer Brett Lee will be in Kerala on Friday to attend a family meet of children who have undergone cochlear implantations. Brett Lee is a global hearing ambassador.
The Kerala government will also launch the Kathoram project, which plans to provide cochlear implants to kids who are deaf. The project aims to rehabilitate and treat the disabled in the state.
Under the scheme, free surgery will be provided to deaf children between 0 to 5 years. The children will be monitored from the day of their birth to the next 18 months. The idea is to make them ready to go to school by the time they complete three-and-a-half-years of age.
Kerala government also has the Rs 100-crore Anu Yatra project under which intervention centres, 28 model child rehabilitation centres, 25 mobile intervention units, comprehensive insurance and universal identity cards will be provided.
