Kochi declared as the first age-friendly city in India
Kochi City in Kerala has been declared as the first age-friendly city in the country.
Thanks to the city corporation’s programmes like vayomithram, elderly day care centre, age-friendly healthcare and a senior taxi service.
The announcement was made at the first age-friendly park, Subhash Park, where a special walking track was made for senior citizens.
Also, day care centres for the elderly will be built at different locations in the city.
Under the Vayomithram project, free medicines will be given to the houses of elderly couples living alone as per their needs.
Under the elderly healthcare campaign, free dementia screening will be organised at regular periods of time.
