Driverless cars and their use for people with disabilities

Many technology and automobile companies are working on the development and testing of cars that can move around without drivers.

Experts have been discussing the advantages and disadvantages of the driverless cars. However, such a technology can prove to be very beneficial for people with disabilities. A car that does not need to be manually controlled can be a great mobility option for disabled people.

Google has already asked a blind person to test its self-driven vehicles.

The Texas A&M Transportation Institute, USA is also working on developing a working model that will allow people with and without disabilities and driverless vehicles to communicate with each other in words, sound and on electronic displays.

Hopefully the technology will be easily available in future and create a barrier free world.
