Eating banana, avocado daily can help prevent heart disease, says study
A new study says that eating potassium-rich foods like one banana and an avocado every day may help prevent hardening of the arteries that can lead to heart disease and death.
The research was done on mice, who were at risk of heart disease when given a high-fat diet.
The mice were given diets with low, normal or high levels of potassium.
The study showed that the arteries of mice fed with a low-potassium diet became harder, while those fed on a high potassium diet had less artery hardening.
A potassium rich diet reduces the risk of heart disease by lowering the hardening or stiffening of the arteries, which influences how hard the heart has to work to pump blood through the body.
