Aadhaar now compulsory to open post office deposits and small saving schemes
The government has made Aadhaar compulsory for opening of post office deposits and small saving schemes such as Public Provident Fund (PPF), the National Savings Certificate scheme and Kisan Vikas Patra deposits.
People under this scheme who have not given their Aadhaar number at the time of application will have to submit the same to the Post Office Savings Bank or Accounts Office concerned on or before 31 December 2017.
Aadhaar is already compulsory to open bank deposits, getting new mobile phone and many other government services. The idea is to remove benami deals and black money from the country.
