Varanasi Akhara to allow women after 450 years
Two Varanasi girls have created history by choosing a career in wrestling.
Their passion for the sport has led to the Tulsidas Akhara in Varanasi to open its gate for women to practice wrestling.
This is the first time in 450 years that women will now enter the Akhara for wrestling on this Diwali.
For past many years, Nandini Sarkar and Aastha Verma had been trying to convince the Akhara to let women wrestle.
The Sankat Mochan temple trust, which runs the wrestling ground has finally agreed.
The two girls are completing their graduation, along with wrestling and want to take it up as a career.
