World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Day - SBH
World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Day- SBH is observed on 25 October and aims to raise awareness and understanding about the rights of persons with these conditions.
Spina bifida is a birth defect where the backbone and membranes around the spinal cord are not completely closed. This takes place mostly in the lower back.
Some genetic and environmental factors are believed to be the reason behind the condition.
The defect can effect ability to walk, problems with bladder or bowel control.
Hydrocephalus is a condition in which the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) accumulates within the brain.
This causes increased pressure inside the skull that can result in headaches, double vision, poor balance, personality changes, or mental impairment.
The theme of the World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Day 2017 is to FOCUS on “MENTAL HEALTH OF PEOPLE WITH SBH.”
