New drug trial gives hope for parents of kids with Rett Syndrome
Nearly 50 parents of children with Rett Syndrome met senior doctors at the Narayana Health SRCC Children's Hospital in Mumbai recently.
Rett syndrome is a rare neurological disease that affects brain development, resulting in severe mental and physical disability mostly in girls. It can be seen in girls between six to 18 months of age. Cases of male children with Rett Syndrome are rare.
In the meeting, parents of children with Rett Syndrome got to know more about dealing with such children and advances in treatment, including a new drug trial, which will be carried out in centres in Mumbai, Kolkata, Cochin, Chennai and Delhi. Each centre will take care of five to seven kids with Rett Syndrome.
