Meet 11 year old Indian American girl Gitanjali Rao who is America’s top young scientist

11 years old Gitanjali Rao from Lone Tree in the US was declared the winner of the 2017 Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge.

The national middle-school science competition is run by 3M and Discovery Education.

The Indian-American girl was selected as the winner for her work to develop Tethys, a sensor-based device that can identify lead in water faster than other current methods.

Gitanjali uses a less-costly way to water safety with the help of a mobile app that makes it easy to carry and use whenever required.

The aim of the device is to solve the water contamination problem and reduce long-term health effects from the exposure of lead.
