Amazing! Transgender becomes the head of a village in Maharashtra
40 years old Dnyaneshwar Kamble has been selected as Maharashtra's first ever transgender sarpanch (head) in the gram panchayat elections in a village of Solapur recently.
Kamble who contested on a BJP ticket, received 868 votes to defeat NCP rival Jaysingh Salve by 167.
Kamble is happy after the win, but she is also sad by the fact that others in her community are not equally treated and given respect by the society.
Kamble aims to focus on welfare of the people in her village.
Being a class 6 dropout, she said that she understands the value of education and wants to provide better education facilities in her village.
She also aims to make her village open defecation free.
