Admit student with Thalassemia to MBBS course, says Delhi High Court
The Delhi High Court has directed the Indraprastha University in New Delhi to grant admission to a student suffering from Thalassaemia in MBBS course under the disability category in any of its three colleges.
The move came after a plea by the student suffering from Thalassemia said that the blood disorder falls under the disability category as per the new Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
The court said that it was no fault of the student and he has the right of admission in the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) category.
The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 was passed by the parliament to replace the PwD Act, 1995.
The new Act has also increased the reservation of persons with disabilities from three to five per cent.
