1200 deaf people received free hearing aids

As part of a special drive the distribution of custom made hearing aids took place in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu.

1200 deaf people, including 1,100 children were given the hearing aids free of cost. Most of the children were students aged between four and 16 years and were from poor families.

Starkey Hearing Foundation based in the USA distributed the hearing aids to the deaf people. As per reports, the hearing aids were worth Rs 2.5 crore.

Starkey Hearing Foundation started giving away free hearing aids in India in 2007.

One such distribution event by the foundation was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records, where hearing aids were fitted to 16,000 beneficiaries in two days.
