Meat and liquor shops banned in Vrindavan and Barsana
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a ban on the meat and liquor shops in Vrindavan and Barsana towns in Mathura district.
The order was released by the Yogi Adityanath government on Friday.
The government has ordered that these places are "pavitra teerth sthals or sacred pilgrimage sites".
The local authorities in the towns of Vrindavan and Barsana have been given a time of three months to implement the ban.
The ban has been declared in view of the tourism in these places as lakhs of tourists visit every year.
Many people feel that this a politically motivated decision as Mathura Nagar Nigam and Barsana Nagar Panchayat have upcoming municipal polls next month.
